CN I Pathology
-Anosmia can occur in serious head injuries due to shearing of olfactory nerve filaments or fracture of the cribiform plate. Frontal lobe tumor or abscess can cause anosmia due to compression of the olfactory bulb or tract. Anosmia following trauma or new onset unilateral anosmia is thus concerning for intracranial pathology.
