Notes:
This is a list of conditions which we consider to be indications for emergency ultrasound. Remember that ultrasound is user dependant, and the best images are typically obtained by the regular technologist during the daytime. Note that cholecystitis is not listed. The best examination for this is hepatobiliary scintigraphy. Acute pancreatitis in the presence of normal bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase does not need to be imaged. If a study is felt to be necessary, CT is widely considered to be the best modality
