Axial T1W Gadolinum-enhanced MR. This pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) shows a superficial enhancing nodule, and a larger cystic component. These tumors usually present in childhood, and are thought to arise from "subpial" astrocytes. This may account for the common presentation as a superficial mass.
